Ravens' Backfield Ready for End of Season

The Ravens' three headed monster in the backfield really increases the team's chances of not only making the playoffs, but winning some playoff games. Splitting time between Willis McGahee, Le' Ron McClain and Ray Rice has helped to keep all three fresh. They provide the Ravens with a more potent rushing attack than most teams in the NFL because they are not only good, but they aren't worn down through 13 weeks of the season.

John Harbaugh and Cam Cameron have made this team a late season threat because of their insistence to build a three person tag team to run the ball. The run game should carry the offense against tired defenses for the remainder of the year.

Cam Cameron, the man, the mystery, the enigma

Cam Cameron, who’s legal name is Malcolm Cameron, was a talented athlete in his youth. He was an All-American Quarterback and star point guard for his high school in Tarre Haute, Indiana. Cameron played football under the tutelage of Lee Corson and basketball for Bobby Knight before a knee injury ended his career.

Cameron began his career as an assistant for Bo Schembechler at the University of Michigan. He entered into the NFL as a quarterbacks coach for the Washington Redskins in 1994. After three seasons of coaching Gus Ferrotte he had enough. He thought to himself, “self why am I coaching this dunce? I shouldn’t be here coaching a kid who concusses himself while running into a goal post.” After realizing the error of his ways, Cameron returned to the college ranks as the head football coach of the Indiana Hoosiers. He finished his tenure with a disappointing 18-37 record.

Cameron realized he just couldn’t be a head coach. He begged and pleaded on his knees with diamond rings in hand for the Chargers to give him a job. They conceded and gave him the title of offensive coordinator. Cameron created an offense that allowed LaDanian Tomlinson and Drew Brees to blossom. He hit the jackpot, a successful team and offensive studs. Unfortunately, Cameron’s eyes got a little too big.

He thought he would take another shot at the head coaching gig, but this time for the Miami Dolphins. What a mistake that was in hindsight. 1-15, enough said. Then on January 23, 2008 John Harbaugh, new head coach of the Baltimore Ravens, swooped down from the heavens and saved young Mr. Cameron. Cameron now has a host of weapons to work with, but an offense that has historically struggled. He will once again have to turn a historically poor offense into a powerhouse as he did in San Diego.

Billy Volek, whos that?

Picked this one up off the rumor mill:

The Ravens, in particular Cam Cameron, are interested in bring Billy Volek to Baltimore. Now you may be asking yourself, “Self who is Billy Volek?” Well my friends, the answer is “the best backup QB in the NFL.” Volek is currently backing up the always sour-faced Phillip Rivers in San Diego. The Chargers just picked up the option on Rivers so Volek has no chance of starting any time soon. Cameron and Volek are familiar with eachother, and we all know the Raven’s QB situation is not ideal. Picking up Volek would be a good move for insurance purposes. If McNair, Boller, or Smith don’t work out this season plug Volek. It would be virtually impossible for all 4 QB’s to fail. If one of the 4 QB’s or some combination of the whole group can carry the team through one entire season, the drafted QB this year (still hoping its Chad Henne) will have ample time to learn what the NFL is all about. In case you forgot, Billy Volek is the quarterback that marched down the field and scored the winning touchdown to knock the defending champion Indianapolis Colts out of the playoffs this season.

You better stick around Rex

Offering Rex Ryan a raise and promotion seems to have subdued his desires to be a head coach in the NFL for the time being. I will be the first to say that I thought Ryan should assume the role of head coach of the Ravens, but the powers that be didn't listen to my constant calling and begging. I'm sure it didn't help that I only spoke in an Arnold Schwarzenegger voice.

Ryan will be sticking around under the new title of assistant head coach, and will be receiving a paycheck totaling $1.5 million. Not too shabby, not Jason Garrett numbers, but I'll take it.

This is a huge move for the Ravens. Keeping Ryan around should make the dynamic in the locker room full of lollipops and rainbows. With players coach John Harbaugh, players coach Rex Ryan, and enigma Cam Cameron the purple birds are looking ripe for a turnaround next season.

On a sadder note, I think all-universe Jonathan Ogden's career might come to an end. The St. Albans high school home town boy is currently leaning toward calling it quits and who can blame him. My brilliant idea is to make Kelly Gregg play superman style and clog the holes on both the offensive and defensive lines. Any takers??
